New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Tuesday said the national capital would overcome its power problems within the next three years with as much as 7,000 MW of power expected to be generated.
“I can assure you that in the next three years, with 7,000 MW of power, Delhi will be more than self-sufficient,” she said here at the inaugural session of the 6th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), the annual conclave of the Indian diaspora.
Addressing a gathering at the two-day convention being attended 1,500 delegates from around 50 countries, she also promised that water problems in the city would end soon. “Water will not be a problem as it is today.”
Describing Delhi as India’s most liveable and greenest city, the chief minister called upon overseas Indians to help in its development.
“Health, infrastructure, development of weaker sections of the society are challenges we face, which we should take as opportunities… We need your help in these sectors.”
She also called for the diaspora’s skills and experience to develop the national capital’s traffic management.
“Delhi faces traffic congestion just like any other developed city in the world. We need your help in the management of traffic in the city.”
Dikshit said her government aimed to make Delhi an education hub. “We plan to have a SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) university based in Delhi.”
