Mumbai : Following the formation of a separate department for minorities, the government of Maharashtra has decided to constitute a commission to take stock of the local socio-economic and educational condition of minorities in every district of the State. The
commission will submit its report to the government, and on the basis of this report the requirements of minorities will be fulfilled through Maulana Azad
Minorities Financial Development Corporation (MAMFDC). An announcement to this effect was made by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh during the Minorities Self-Employment Conference organised by MAMFDC here Monday.
The chief minister said Maharashtra is the first State
to give approval to the implementation of Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee Report, and for this it has established a separate department for minorities.
He further said that the Sachar Committee had pointed out the condition of minorities only in four districts and 43 towns in the State, but to gather further details the government will form a commission, the members of which will visit every district of the State and submit its report to the government. He made it clear that the commission will consist of Muslim scholars and social scientists rather than those belonging to political parties. However he did not make it clear as to when the commission would be formed and what stipulated timeframe it will be granted.
