Bogota : The Colombian police have arrested two top functionaries of the country’s two major guerrilla groups, EFE news agency reported Wednesday.
Esder Pineda, alias “Coloreto”, a member of Colombia’s largest and oldest guerrilla group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), was arrested Tuesday from the western parts of Bogota. He was wanted in several cases of kidnapping and killing, the police said.
Pineda, who commanded FARC operations in the southern provinces of Caqueta and Huila, was in Bogota to set up a new unit.
In a separate incident, the police Tuesday also captured Carlos Marin Guarin, a top leader of the second largest guerrilla group, the National Liberation Army (ELN), in Bogota.
“Guarin was responsible for countless kidnappings and killing of eight Venezuelan soldiers.” Defence Minister Juan Manuel Santos said in a press conference after his arrest.
