Key index ends flat after year’s fifth record high

Mumbai : A benchmark Indian market index Wednesday recorded the fifth high of the new year, but pared gains to end marginally up from the previous day’s close on the back of profit booking.

The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange opened the day at 20,903 points, reached an all-time high of 21,113.13 before closing at 20869.78 points.

The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) opened at 6,287.55 points and marked a high of 6,338.30 before closing with a loss of 15.85 points at 6,272.00.

Reliance Natural topped the volumes list with a total turnover of over Rs.7 billion and traded between Rs.249.70 and Rs.224.20 before settling the day at Rs.228.35.

Reliance Capital, Reliance Petrochemicals, Reliance Communication and Reliance Energy followed the list.

BSE witnessed total turnover of Rs.118.69 billion whereas on NSE the total turnover was Rs.214.69 billion.

HDIL lead the pack of A-group shares as gainer, and Aditya Birla Nuvo surged on the news of preferential issue on the cards.

Mastek posted good second quarter numbers and witnessed fresh support at lower levels. Suzlon marked a historic top.
