The special training of women is slated to begin Jan 15 at the police training centre in Jodhpur. So far the state only had units of male police commandos.

“After seeing the success of the woman commando force in Tamil Nadu, we decided to have a wing of women commandos in the state,” home department officials told IANS.

Almost 80 women constables, all below the age of 30, working with the police department and the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) have been short-listed for training.

These women would be trained in the art of unarmed combat and guarding VIPs. During the eight-week programme, they would learn to handle the latest sophisticated weapons. They would be made adept at handling exigencies like the outbreak of a major fire.
