Jammu : The Indian Army has indicted 13 personnel, including three officers, allegedly involved in selling special rations, which was meant for soldiers serving in Siachen, in the black market.
The army has completed one of its two courts of inquiry into the scam and has initiated action against the accused personnel, said defence spokesperson Lt. Col. S.D. Goswami.
“The second court of inquiry is under progress and will be finalised shortly,” Goswami said.
“On the basis of the inquiry completed,” the spokesperson said, “disciplinary action has been directed against ten soldiers while administrative action is being taken against three officers.”
The scam came to light after Jammu and Kashmir police found special rations meant for soldiers serving in Siachen glacier being sold in the open market.
The police wanted to question some of the officials including one of brigadier rank stationed at Leh-based 14 corps. However, the army authorities allegedly did not cooperate with the police.
Refuting this charge, Goswami said: “Based on FIRs (first information report), the police had named five officers in the case. It has been repeatedly intimated to the police that out of these five officers, two were never posted in Leh, two officers have been posted out and one officer is presently posted in Leh.”
Goswami claimed the police have been told that the officer present in Leh is available to their representatives to clarify any matter or provide details relevant to their investigation.
“In respect of the two officers posted out, the police has been requested to inform about the allegations against them, so that the case can be taken up. Unfortunately, there has been no communication from the police in this regard,” he added.
