Parsvnath chess: Two wins each for Ghaem, Ganguly, Kunte

New Delhi : Leading seeds began in style with comfortable wins in their first two rounds of the sixth Parsvnath International Open Chess Tournament Sunday.

Among those moving unscathed in the first two rounds was top seed Ghaem Maghami Ehsan of Iran who had an easy outing against Sumant Subramaniam of Malaysia and J. Malleswara Rao of India.

Second seed and leader of the Indian challenge in this tournament, Surya Shekhar Ganguly, made short work of Chiraranjan Bhuyan in the first round and then beat Kantilal Dave.

Another prominent star winning both his first two rounds was Abhijit Kunte. He beat S.K. Sharma and then Nepali Badri in second.

World champion Vishwanathan Anand’s former coach Elizbar Ubilava also earned a full point defeating Sanjib Ghosh.

Commonwealth champion R.B. Ramesh also had an easy first day as he beat S. Kaushik.

There were two surprises on the first day. Little-known Dhara Gupta of Delhi beat International Master Vikramaditya Kamble in a first round game. GM Batyrov Sapar of Turkmenistan was held to a draw by much-lower-rated Pereira John Harry of Singapore.

The tournament includes a record 15 Grand Masters and three Women Grandmasters.
