Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said in a press conference the propaganda scandal of mass media is in line with the objectives of US President George W. Bush’s Middle East tour.

The US must apologize to Iran, regional countries, and its own people for having deceived them, he stressed.

Pentagon officials and Bush himself took advantage of the incident in the Persian Gulf between US warships and the Iranian navy to stir up threats and denunciations against the Persian State.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Supreme Leader in the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Ali Lariyani, called the event exaggerated, and stressed the intentions in the current context are to give the idea that Iran is a threat.

Upon his arrival Sunday in Abu Dhabi, Bush strongly criticized the Persian country by calling it the world’s main instigator of terrorism, and “a threat to peace and stability in the Middle East
countries.”

His tour of the region began Wednesday in Israel, and then reached the West Bank, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, with Saudi Arabia and Egypt still to be visited.
