Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed is set to resign after being accused by legislator Shoaib Lone of having taken a bribe of Rs.40,000 from him.
“I have no idea as to what he (Lone) is talking about, but since my public image has been targeted, I would quit the ministry till inquiry comes out with its findings,” Peerzada, who is also the chief of the state unit if the Congress, told reporters Monday evening.
“I, however, want the inquiry to be fair and just,” he said, adding that there was a “big political conspiracy against me by my political rivals within my party and outside it.”
Peerzada’s announcement came after the police arrested his driver for making threatening calls to Lone’s mother.
Lone, an independent legislator, first told Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad about Peerzada having accepted a bribe and later made it public through local TV channels.
The opposition had raised the issue in the legislative assembly Monday and demanded the sacking of the minister.
