Weak Asian cues spoil market sentiment

Mumbai : Indian markets opened firm but weak Asian markets overshadowed sentiments and early gains were washed out as trading progressed Tuesday.

The 30-share sensitive (Sensex) index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened at 20,836.47 points, up 2.24 percent and marked a high of 20,872.93, up 3.07 percent with current trades at 20,650.05 points, down 0.38 percent.

The list of turnover toppers underwent a reshuffle. Reliance Natural Resources led the pack with Rs.880 million turnover, followed by Reliance Petroleum at Rs.320 million, Reliance Energy at Rs.290 million, Infrastructure Development Finance Corp at Rs.289 million and NTPC at Rs.284 million.

Top gainers in overall market in the morning session were Aro Granite, up 19.16 percent at Rs.125, Swaraj Mazda up 16.67 percent at Rs.385 and Dynamic Products up 15.65 percent at Rs.34.

The broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange mirrored similar sentiments and opened at 6,226.35 points, up 0.23 percent. It marked a high of 6,260.45 and hovered around 6,195.90 at noon, down 0.18 percent.

The top turnover scrips were Reliance Natural Resources, Reliance Industries and Bharti Airtel.
