Aligarh : The Aligarh Muslim University will soon launch its first Community Radio and Community Television. Inaugurating a 3-camera production studio at the university’s Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, AMU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis made the announcement, saying that these electronic media will help in bridging the communication gap among students at the campus.
In an interaction with post-graduate students of the department, the Vice Chancellor said that the university has proposed to start the Community Radio which will be followed by a Community Television. The University will provide all necessary infrastructure, staff and facilities to the department for their launch and management. The students will get much required practical training through the Community Radio.
In a reply to a question, Prof. Azis said that the university will start some new job oriented courses such as graduate courses in Bio-informatics, disaster management, agriculture and retail marketing.
“The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication has set up a 3-camera studio at the cost of more than one crore. The Department gives hands-on training to students in news and current affairs television programs and studio interview and talk shows”, said Dr. M. Shafey Kidwai, Chairman of the department.
