New Delhi : State-owned power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), which expects to increase annual turnover by two and a half times in the next five years, would recruit 20,000 people to drive the expansion.
“The annual turnover of the company is projected to reach Rs.450 billion ($11.47 billion) by 2011-2012 from Rs.187 billion ($4.77 billion) in 2006-07,” BHEL Chairman and Managing Director Ashok K. Puri told IANS.
To support this ambitious plan, the company plans to commensurately increase its headcount besides expanding equipment-manufacturing capacity.
“The company has drawn up plans to recruit about 18,000-20,000 employees in the coming five years as part of its manpower expansion plan,” Puri said.
“The total strength of the company is estimated to touch 50,000 by 2011-12. By that time, the annual turnover of BHEL is projected to reach Rs.450 billion,” BHEL chairman said.
“This recruitment is aimed at infusing fresh talent for spreading growth initiatives besides providing for attrition and retirement,” he pointed out.
“This shall also include additional manpower required in the disciplines of project management and construction,” Puri said.
