A total of 66 Nigerians were arrested, mostly in Italy and some 15 in Holland, where the illegal band was organizing some of its activities, with extensions in many of the other European Union member countries and the United States.

Pisani recalled that in October 2007, a first phase of the Viola Operation was able to capture 23 suspects in France, Germany and the US on charges of kidnapping, slavery, illegal adoptions of African orphans and drug trafficking.

Apparently many young Nigerian girls were forced into prostitution in Italy and other European countries.

Pisani explained that this band used the novel approach of employing gangsters from Bulgaria, Poland and Romania, and also practiced Nigerian witchcraft to induce many young girls into prostitution.
