Director-General of the Department of West Asian and North Africa of Chinese Foreign Ministry Song Aiguo made the remark in a meeting with the visiting Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili Thursday.

Song said that despite pressures of the US and certain Western countries, Beijing believes that there should be no pressure and sanctions on Iran over its nuclear case.

He said that talks between senior Iranian and Chinese officials would be very important regarding the meeting of 5 1 Group (the five permanent members of UN Security Council — China, Russia, France, Britain and the US — plus Germany) which is to be held in Berlin next week.

Song stated that China would continue its constructive role to settle outstanding issues of Iran’s nuclear case through negotiations.

China, as among parties dealing with Iran’s nuclear case, is interested in continuation of consultations with Iran, he added.

Jalili expressed hope his visit to China and talks with senior Chinese officials would result in positive achievements for the two countries.

The SNSC secretary arrived in Beijing Thursday on a two-day visit to hold talks with senior Chinese officials including Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on the latest developments concerning Iran’s nuclear case and mutual relations.
