“The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and government of Lebanon,” the council said in a press statement read out by council president Giadalla Ettalhi of Libya.

The council “reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed,” the statement said.

The council expressed support for Lebanese efforts to bring those responsible for the attack to justice and urged member states to extend their cooperation with the Lebanese authorities in this regard.
