Gaza : Israeli warplanes attacked a group of Palestinian gunmen east of the refugee camp of Jibalya in the north of Gaza Strip on Saturday killing two of the fighters.
Medical sources identified the slain gunmen as Ihab Al-Banna, 30, and Ali Jumaa, 25, both members of Izz-Eddine Al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of the Palestinian Islamic movement, Hamas.
Six Palestinians including a woman were also wounded in the strike and they were all whisked to hospital for treatment. Two of them suffered serious cuts, they said. Bodies of the two gunmen were disfigured beyond recognition.
Witnesses said the Israeli warplane fired a missile in the direction of the gunmen, who were entrenched at an outpost on the Gaza-Israel demarcation line.
Earlier today, Israeli warplanes attacked a car in Al-Shujiah east of Gaza City but no one was hurt. The aircraft carried out an identical attack on another vehicle north of the city, without causing losses. Witnesses said the passengers stepped out of the car only seconds before a missile fired by the aircraft hit it.
Up to 37 Palestinians have been killed in stepped-up attacks in Gaza since four days ago. More than 150 others have been wounded.
At least 6,000 people, mainly Palestinians, have been killed since flare-up of the second Palestinian uprising in September 2000.
