New Delhi : British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, now on a two-day visit to India, has backed New Delhi’s bid for Permanent Membership of the UN Security Council.
He was speaking at the UK India Entrepreneurship Summit at IIT Delhi Monday evening, said an All India Radio (AIR) report.
Brown asked Europe and America to cut subsidies to enable conclusion of the Doha Round of Talks. He said India has an equally important role in reaching a global trade agreement. He said that he is for global competition and against protectionism, including outsourcing.
Brown announced an aid of 825 million pounds to India for programmes to boost the role of women in society.
The fourth summit talks between the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Gordon Brown begin in New Delhi today.
The two leaders are likely to have wide ranging talks on several bilateral and international issues.
