Musharraf vows to improve Pakistan’s image in Europe visit

Islamabad : President Pervez Musharraf said on Sunday that his four-nation European visit is aimed at improving Pakistan’s image and removing certain misperception about happenings in the country and the region.

President Musharraf embarked on 8-day visit to Belgium, France, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, the state-run television reported.

Talking to newsmen at Chaklala military air base before his departure, the President said during his bilateral meetings with leaders of these countries and during his address on different issues of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos his focus would be on clearing misperceptions and giving them correct perspective of the developments in Pakistan and the region.

The President said the organizers of the WEF at Davos were keen to listen to him and they have provided him an opportunity to address a number of meetings which is the rare privilege.

About his engagements in Brussels, he said the European Union is an important international player and he would have an exchange of views with the leadership of the Union on bilateral and global issues.

The President said he would also have discussions with the Prime Minister of Belgium, British Prime Minister and President of France on how to further consolidate bilateral cooperation with these countries.

Musharraf said he would also address Think Tank and Pakistani community in these countries to apprise them of the developments in Pakistan.
