Addressing members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in Brussels Wednesday, Jalili said: “Let me explain several points. We have both fulfilled our duties and taken many confidence-building measures beyond our duties.

“Today, our activities are transparent,” said Jalili, adding that as an NPT signatory, Iran insists on its rights.

“We, however, insist on our rights. That should have a legal response. We are an NPT signatory and a member of the IAEA. According to the IAEA, we should gain our rights in return for fulfilling our duties. Article four of the NPT says it is the right of the members to have uranium enrichment. Why should we be deprived of this right? Our argument is that as an NPT signatory, Iran should not be an exception.”

He said: “We are against weapons of mass destruction. We want a world free of nuclear weapons. We believe weapons of mass destruction do no bring either any security or power for any country.”

As for the past ambiguities in connection with Iran’s nuclear issue, he said: “We have said since the beginning that many points raised so far have wrong basis.”

He said the P1 and P2 issues have been the basis of many anti-Iran allegations and referral of the country’s case to the UN Security Council. “Just three problems remain. Contrary to claims that Tehran wants to buy time, we have very good and active cooperation with the IAEA in connection with the three problems,” he added.
