London : President Pervez Musharraf arrived here Friday on the last leg of his four-nation European tour. During his three-day stay in Britain, President Musharraf will call on Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street on January 28 and discuss ways to further boost ties between the two countries.
The two leaders are expected to exchange views on international situation in the wake of growing terrorism, Pakistan-India peace process and the democratic progression in Pakistan.
Soon after President Musharraf’s arrival in London, the first British Muslim Minister Shahid Malik will call on President Musharraf.
He will inform the President about the support being provided by his Department for International Development (DFID) for various social and health projects in Pakistan.
President Musharraf will speak at the prestigious Royal United Services Institute for Defence Studies (RUSI) on ‘Vision for Pakistan and Regional Harmony.’
The President will also address the British-Pakistani community at a local hotel on challenges facing the country.
On the last day of his UK visit, President Musharraf will address British media at a breakfast meeting on January 28. He will then proceed to Downing Street to hold talks with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Although the two leaders have spoken frequently on telephone in the recent past, Monday’s meeting will be their first face to face.
Analysts have described President Musharraf’s visit as important for the two countries in further cementing their economic ties and sharing experiences on countering terrorism and radicalization.
Britain is the second largest foreign investor in Pakistan and is also the third largest trading partner after USA and UAE. Within European Union, the UK is also the largest trading partner of Pakistan.
