Capt. (Retd) M Anwar, administrator of the board, has written to the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi requesting him to stop the election. A copy of the letter was sent to the election convener of Anjuman and the state Commission for Women.

The letter says that Anjuman’s managing committee was functioning without seeking approval from the board. The board was kept in dark about this election also. The present managing committee was constituted on December 10, 2005 for a period of three years.

The board may send a supervisory committee within a fortnight to scrutinise the irregularities of Anjuman.

The board is believed to have taken the decision in the wake of a controversy over the attempt by a woman student leader for the membership of Anjuman Islamia. Nazia Tabassum, the general secretary of Ranchi University Students Union, wanted to becme a member but was denied by the Anjuman on the ground of her being a woman. The Anjuman by-laws, however, do not prohibit women from becoming a member or contesting its election.
