Civilian killed, 10 injured in Baghdad violence

Baghdad : A civilian was killed and ten others were wounded in two small arms fire attacks and a roadside bomb explosion in different parts of the Iraqi capital here Saturday, an Interior Ministry source said.

“Unknown gunmen in a car opened fire at an Iraqi army patrol in the Mua’skar al-Rasheed thoroughfare in southern Baghdad,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The attack resulted in the killing of a civilian and injuring of three others, the source said.

In a separate incident, a roadside bomb detonated near the al-Shaab Football Stadium in eastern Baghdad, wounding five bystanders, according to the source.

Also in the day, an armed group opened fire on the al-Jumhuriya secondary school in Baghdad’s central district of Karrada, wounding two female students and smashing the windows of several classrooms, the source added.

Sporadic attacks continue in Baghdad despite the related lull of violence across the capital according to U.S. and Iraqi officials.
