Chennai : Indian hockey team’s spirited 5-0 win over Belgium in the second hockey Test here Sunday has drawn praise from coach Joaquim Carvalho with goalkeeper Bharat Chhetri’s performance coming in for a special mention.
“I thought Bharat (Chhetri) was brilliant today (Sunday) and came up with a lot of saves. Overall, we played much better today than on Friday (first Test that was drawn) when we made far too many errors in the defence,” Carvalho said.
He opined that left-half Prabodh Tirkey who was error-prone Friday, was a different player following a prolonged video session Saturday.
“We replayed the first Test recording and had a lengthy discussion on various mistakes that we made. I think, it helped the boys to understand where they went wrong and correct the mistakes,” he said.
On the remaining three matches, Carvalho reiterated that the series was an important step in their preparations for the Olympic qualifier in Santiago, Chile, in March.
“As I mentioned last week, these matches will help us iron out flaws in the game and I am quite confident that we will be in good shape for the Chile competition,” he said.
