“Last week, the station was producing 45 megawatts of electricity though its current capacity is 80 megawatts,” Maliha told Voice of Palestine radio.

On Sunday, Israel resumed sending fuel to Gaza following a ruling from the Israeli High Court. However, the court did not respond to a petition calling for keeping the fuel supplies to the Gaza power station unlimited, Maliha said.

If Israel abided by the High Court decision, the power station will be able to produce 55 megawatts more of power using two turbines out of three, according to Maliha.

Nearly two weeks ago, Israeli government ordered to seal all the border crossings to and from the Gaza Strip for retaliation against dozens of rockets and mortar shells fired by Gaza militants at Sderot and the rural communities in the western Negev.

Since the closure, the Gaza fuel supply has reached critical levels.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians flocked into Egypt on Wednesday to stock up on food and fuel in short supply after the Gaza-Egypt border fence was partially destroyed by Gaza militants.
