Madrasas should be modernized: West Bengal CM

Howrah, Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Sunday stressed on the need of modernization of madrasas.

Addressing the convocation ceremony of Al Amin Mission residential school, he said his government wanted to maintain a balance between the educational standards of the majority and the minority groups. At madrasas, modern subjects like science and mathematics should be taught along side the religious subjects like Arabic and Quran, he suggested.

Emphasizing the requirement of technical education, he said more stress should be given on technical and vocational training to help students get employed after completion of their education. He said the students passing out from the Mission should enter in public life and take part in the development of the country.

Those who spoke at the occasion included West Bengal Madrasa and Minority Development Minister Abdus Sattar and MPs Mohd Salim and Hannan Mollah.
