The new pipeline, parallel to the existing Kirkuk-Yumurtalik oil pipeline, aimed to transfer 10 billion cubic metres (bcm) of Iraqi natural gas annually to the Turkish and world markets, the report said.

Talks regarding the new pipeline were on the track and that the estimated 280 bcm of natural gas in Iraqi reserves would be exported to European markets via Turkey, it said, quoting Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler.

As an integrated one, the new pipeline project covered the exploration, extraction, processing and transportation of natural gas in Iraq’s northeast.

According to the report, the state-owned Turkish Pipeline Company (BOTAS) has launched feasibility studies for the planned pipeline. It would also complete the segment of pipeline that crosses through Turkey’s territory.

A liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal would also be established in Turkish southeastern province of Adana to process and transport a portion of the gas to world markets via supertanker, added the report.
