Russia invites observers for presidential election

Moscow : Russia has invited some 350 international observers for the March 2 presidential poll, the head of Moscow’s election administration said here Monday.

“There will be no restrictions for any international monitoring commission, as long as it acts in accordance with Russian law,” Central Election Commission head Vladimir Churov told a press conference.

Those observers invited are from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and some other organizations, Churov said.

One of the invited is Christian Strohal, head of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, he added.
