Chinese army mobilised to help the snow-hit people

Beijing : China has mobilised the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops to aid the vast multitude of people hit by one of the worst snowfalls in recent years in the southern part of the country.

The PLA’s department of general staff and general political department issued a joint decree Monday, ordering troops in the affected areas to collaborate with the local governments in ameliorating the suffering of the people and join in relief and rescue operation.

The troops should give whatever assistance local governments require in tackling the situation, the order said.

So far, 158,000 PLA troops and the People’s Armed Police (PAP) and 300,000 personnel have joined the campaign to tackle the snow backlash.

At least 24 people have died in heavy snow and rain which have also caused enormous financial and property loss.
