Rajan, Sekar and Kumar were to attend the funeral of their father Ramamurthy, who passed away Monday after brief illness.

They died on the spot.

People blamed the accident on the growing traffic problems in the metropolis.

“Blaming the road-users alone is not right because the railway level crossing often remains closed at a stretch for nearly 30 minutes, to make way for trains. Don’t we have the similar right to use the streets?” asks Raghu Krishnan, a 28-year-old computer professionals who lives in the suburbs here.

Southern Railway has, meanwhile, drawn up a plan of replacing major level crossings with flyovers or subways in the city.
