Kabul : One civilian was killed and five more people were wounded in an apparent suicide bomb attack in this central capital of Afghanistan early on Thursday. The explosion took place in the Tahimani locality of the city. The attacker tried to target a bus carrying personnel of the Defence Ministry to their duty station.
Witnesses said it was a car bomb attack, but police officials on the scene did not confirm, saying they did not know if the destroyed car near the scene was used in the attack or it had become target of the explosion.
Taliban militants, who did not issue a comment immediately, used suicide attacks and roadside bombs as tactics to target Afghan as well as the foreign troops.
A pedestrian was killed while five more people, including one soldier and four civilians, sustained injuries in the blast.
A senior officer, traveling on the bus that was not hit, said the explosives might have been be placed in the car and might have been be blown up with a remote-controlled device.
The Defence Ministry bus would not escape had it been a suicide bombing, he added. Interior Ministry’s officials were not available for comment.
