Cairo : The Arab Interim Parliament (AIP) will hold an extraordinary meeting in Cairo on Saturday, chaired by Speaker Mohammad Al-Saqer, to discuss the continuing Israeli escalation in Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
The meeting is expected to result in steps that would be taken with regard to international parliaments to stop the aggression against Palestinians and to lift the siege imposed on Gaza.
The AIP’s foreign affairs, policy and national security committee held a meeting here last Thursday at the Arab League headquarters and placed several recommendations that would be presented to the parliament for approval.
AIP Secretary General Adnan Omran told KUNA that the parliament and its committee would be discussing the “heinous aggression and the state of ethnic cleansing that the Palestinian people were subjected to by Israeli forces.” He also stressed the importance of Palestinian unity, without which he said no Arab effort would be taken seriously.
Omran added that the AIP speaker had, over the past two days, made contacts with Palestinian leaders in order to push for conciliation between the two mainstream factions, Fatah and Hamas, alongside sending letters to the European Parliament and other relevant international organizations to stop aggression against Palestinians.
