The suspect, identified as Raul Ernesto Piñel, was arrested Sunday after he was found with blood-stained hands in his father’s house, located in the town of Daireaux, a city in Buenos Aires province.

“We have no doubt that this man ate the heart and kidneys of his father. They only found a few scraps (of flesh left) in the pot,” a police spokesperson said Tuesday.

The 33-year-old Piñel had recently been released on furlough from the Urdampilleta prison, where he was serving a sentence for robbery.

The presumed murderer, whom the police have dubbed “The Hannibal of Daireaux”, was arrested after a neighbour who had come to the house reported to the police that he noticed traces of blood in the house.

Upon entering the house, the police found that there were human innards and part of the victim’s spinal column on the kitchen floor.

The dead man was identified as Raul Prudencio Piñel, 57.

“We already have a preliminary report of what was found inside the pot in the kitchen and it was confirmed that the remains of the meal found there were the heart and kidneys of the victim filleted and mixed together ‘Provencal-style’ (with garlic and parsley),” the spokesperson said.

Investigators are not ruling out that Piñel, who cut his father up after a heated argument Saturday night, belongs to some sort of bizarre sect.

The father had lived alone for several years since he was abandoned by his wife and children, whom he beat and mistreated, according to the police.
