By IANS,

Bhopal : Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to reap political benefits from the controversy over land allotment to the Amarnath shrine, the Congress Tuesday also questioned the BJP’s commitment to the Ram temple campaign.

Responding to senior BJP leader L.K. Advani’s remarks here Monday evening, Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesman Brijmohan Srivastava questioned his logic in blaming former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi for not allowing a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

“Advani should instead tell the nation why the temple could not be constructed at Ayodhya during the six years of the NDA (BJP-led National Democratic Alliance) rule,” he told reporters.

Srivastava said the BJP leadership was now trying to reap political benefits from the issue of land allotment for Amarnath pilgrims.

Similarly, the BJP leadership also has no right to speak on the issue of hanging Afzal Guru, convicted for his role in the terror attack on the Indian parliament in December 2001.

“They should first tell the country why their government was sleeping when the attack took place and why Advani, then home minister, did not own up the moral responsibility and resign,” asked Srivastava.
