Islamabad : Militants Tuesday released 44 Pakistani soldiers kidnapped on Monday in a bordering tribal agency.
The Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were released after Jirga, a tribal assembly of elders, held successful negotiations with militants in Pewar village of Kurram tribal agency bordering Afghanistan, Political official Mohammad Azam Khan told reporters.
The Jirga members, he said, agreed to the demands of the captors concerning the opening of all the main roads in the agency, removal of FC, ceasefire between the warring groups, and taking back the security forces to their original position in the agency.
The kidnapping incident took place while FC forces were conducting operations against local militants in Khyber tribal agency.
