Sharm El-Sheikh : President Mahmoud Abbas has said that negotiations with the Israeli side have achieved no progress yet and Israel continues its aggressive policy such as settlements and Judizing Jerusalem, siege, arrests and restriction on movements against Palestinians.
Addressing the 11th Summit of African Union Conference here Monday, Abbas said that the Palestinians are struggling for a legitimate right which is independence and the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital on the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 as well as reaching a just and agreed upon solution for the refugee issue in accordance with UN resolution 194.
“We are exerting efforts to end the division in the Palestinian arena and start a dialogue that unifies the capacities of our people on the bases of respecting our commitments and international agreements under a system that respects political pluralism but it refuses pluralistic groups and armed militias under any pretext,” the president added.
He also said that Palestine will benefit from the important achievement made by Egypt under the leadership of President Hosni Mubarak, namely the calm with Israel, and saving Gaza from a terrible massacre, which provided the atmosphere needed to move forward in the peace efforts with Israel.
Abbas pointed out that the Palestinians are proud of African solidarity with the Palestinian cause since the birth of the Organisation of African Unity.
