“Afghan government in principle welcomes the operation of Pakistani government against insurgents,” President Hamid Karzai’s chief spokesman Hamayon Hamidzada told press briefing on Tuesday.

However, he said more action should be done against militants. “Terrorists are the common enemy of Afghanistan, Pakistan and the whole region as well as the world and so the government of Afghanistan wants serious action against their sanctuaries,” Hamidzada said.

He made the remarks while Pakistani government launched an offensive against Taliban loyalists in the lawless Khyber agency outside Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar last week.

Meantime, The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement that the alliance in coordination with the Pakistan military killed several insurgents along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border on Tuesday.

An ISAF outpost based in the Spera district of eastern Afghanistan’s Khost province was attacked by rebel’s missiles, the statement said.

ISAF, according to the statement, responded with mortar, artillery fire and close air support, and killed several militants.

There were no reports of non-combatant casualties on ISAF or Pakistan forces, it added.
