New Delhi : A city court Wednesday dismissed an application moved by Sher Singh Rana, the alleged killer of MP and bandit Phoolan Devi, seeking transfer of his trial to another court.
District Judge Mamta Sehgal dismissed Rana’s plea and asked him to attend court proceedings in the same court.
“I do not have faith in you. Kindly transfer the case to any other court,” Rana had said in the court of Additional Sessions Judge V.K. Bansal.
The court, taking into account Rana’s submission, forwarded his plea to the district judge for consideration.
Rana’s submission came when the court was about to record a statement of prosecution witness Bahadur Shah.
Shah was presented by the prosecution as the key witness as Rana had allegedly fled in his auto-rickshaw after committing the crime.
Rana had allegedly shot dead Phoolan, who was then a Samajwadi Party MP, outside her Ashoka Road residence in New Delhi July 25, 2001.
According to the prosecution, Rana along with 11 others had conspired to kill Phoolan to avenge the 1981 massacre in Behmai of 20 upper caste villagers for which she had been blamed.
