Havana : Cuba accused the US government Wednesday of encouraging new counterrevolutionary provocations as an intrinsic part of its subversive strategy to overthrow the Revolution.
In a declaration published by Granma daily, the Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX) once again denounced illegal actions of the United States Interest Section (USIS) in Havana.
That behaviour, the text sustains, contravenes the bilateral agreement that allowed the establishment of that office, as well as Cuban and international laws.
Provocative actions organized and funded by the USIS have increased in recent weeks, as well as its interfering and unlawful activities on the island, the note clarifies.
Those actions take place despite reiterated Cuban denunciations, the declaration stressed, and mentioned the organization of an activity on Father’s Day among the most recent ones.
That day, it added, the US secretary of commerce, Cuban-American Carlos Gutierrez, co-president of the commission in charge of applying the Bush Plan against Cuba, addressed a group of dissidents through a video conference.
The declaration also refers to the personalized attention given by US diplomatic officials to counterrevolutionary ringleaders, whom they visit in their homes or contact to give them instructions.
MINREX has evidence that the USIS intends to organize other illegal activities, and is encouraging its mercenaries in Cuba to make public provocations around July 4, the day of the US independence.
The current escalation of such actions is the most recent sign of the US administration’s despair, amid frustrations over renewed failures of its anti-Cuba isolation policy, the declaration affirms.
The Cuban government calls upon that of the US to account for the events, and demands the definite end of organization, funding and monitoring of the internal counterrevolution by the USIS.
The ministerial note clearly reiterates Cuba will not tolerate the continuation of those provocations and unlawful acts, instigated by the US administration through its diplomatic officials in Havana, and holds the US government responsible for the consequences that might result from its reply.
