According to independent website icasualties.org, at least 45 soldiers died in June, including 27 from the US and 13 from Great Britain, representing the highest death toll so far this year since May.

However, military statistics show that in the last month, a total of 49 soldiers from the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), commanded by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and from the one led by the US, died in clashes or accidents, mostly in bomb explosions against military caravans or patrols.

The Pentagon predicted in a weekend report that the Taliban would maintain or increase the rhythm of its attacks, currently at 40 percent over those registered in 2007 in the areas where the US troops operate along the Pakistani border.
