Tel Aviv : The city of Jerusalem is now under state of emergency after an attack Wednesday with an excavator that killed four people and wounded another 45 in main Jaffa Street, police sources said.
Members of the security forces and paramedical services remain on alert to possible repetitions of the attack by a Palestinian young man, who was handling a bulldozer that destroyed everything at its course, even vehicles and pedestrians.
The sources said the attack occurred in an area where there were people on a transportation-related construction site.
Israeli police spokesman Miki Rosenfeld stated the attacker was “a Palestinian man of about 30 years of age, living in the eastern Jerusalem.”
Security forces failed to give any information about responsibles for the attack, but it is said the Galilee Liberation Brigades are behind the attack.
The Palestinian young man was shot by a police officer and a private security guard, who managed to reach the bulldozer.
Hours later the traffic on Jaffa Street was re-established, but security remains tight in Jerusalem and other Israeli cities.
