Syrian Minister of Agriculture Adel Safar, his Lebanese counterpart, Tala al-Sahili, and Secretary-General of the Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council Nasri Khouri expressed satisfaction with the decisions adopted at the meetings Wednesday to boost exchange of agricultural products and protect the livestock sector in both states.

“Syria and Lebanon are in need of genuine integration and continuous coordination due to their geographical factor, similar agricultural products in both countries … and Syria is Lebanon’s gateway to Jordan and the Arab Gulf states,” al-Sahili said in a statement to SANA following the meetings.

Safar, for his part, said “in response to a request from the Lebanese brothers in the Ministry of Agriculture, Syria has allowed the exportation and crossing of Lebanese potatoes through trucks,” expressing his ministry’s readiness to maintain the best agricultural ties with Lebanon.
