Zimbabwe faced the threat of being suspended from full ICC membership after Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) snapped all ties with the African nation last week due to the political instability in the country.

ICC had called for an emergency discussion on Zimbabwe during its board meeting here after the developments.

“The ICC board had a lengthy discussion on the matter of Zimbabwe and at the conclusion of that discussion, it was decided to adjourn and reassemble on Friday,” ICC President-elect David Morgan said Thursday.

The deadlock on Zimbabwe continued as the strong Asian bloc, led by the Indian cricket board, threw its weight behind the troubled nation even as CSA and ECB advocated its ouster.

Cricket Australia (CA) was looking for a mid-path as it does not want to muddy its relations with the Indian board and the ECB.

The British government has made it very clear that Zimbabwe would not be allowed to play in the country and under the circumstances, ECB might lose the rights to host the Twenty20 World Cup next year if Zimbabwe retains its ICC membership.
