North Karnataka’s wish for circuit bench fulfilled

Bangalore : Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan Friday inaugurated the Karnataka high court’s circuit bench at Dharwad, fulfilling a five-decade old demand from the people of north Karnataka for such a facility.

On Saturday, he will inaugurate another bench at Gulbarga, also in the northern part but popularly known as the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.

Three judges of the high court will constitute the circuit bench, which will formally function from July 7.

Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph, who has been appointed a judge of the Supreme Court, and Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa were present at the Dharwad function.

Yeddyurappa appealed to Justice Balakrishnan to make the circuit bench a permanent court at the earliest.
