Baghdad : The United Nations office in Iraq announced on Sunday that Baghdad will host Monday a conference of donor countries for Iraq sponsored by one of the specialized committees of the United Nations.
A statement by the office said that the seventh round of the donor countries conference for Iraq would be held in Baghdad Monday.
The statement disclosed that representatives from the governments of donor countries and others from the World Bank as well as Iraqi government officials, particularly the Iraqi Ministry of Planning would attend the conference.
Countries that will be participating in the conference are Kuwait, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Iceland, India, Ireland, Iran, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Qatar, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Britain and the United States.
Monday’s meeting is the first to be held here after the first meeting was held in Madrid on Oct 23, 2003. The second meeting was held in Abu Dhabi on Feb 28, 2004 and the third in Doha on May 25, 2004 while the fourth was held in Tokyo on Oct 13, 2004. The fifth was held in the Dead Sea on July 18, 2005 while the sixth was held in Istanbul on March 19, 2007.
