Bangladesh Foreign Adviser meets Malaysian Foreign Minister

Dhaka : Foreign Adviser of Bangladesh caretaker government Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury called on Malaysian Foreign Minister Dr. Rais Yatim on the sideline of the D-8 Conference now being held in Kuala Lumpur.

During the meeting on Sunday, they discussed ways and means of further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, a message received here said.

Later talking to reporters, the Foreign Adviser described the meeting as excellent and said they had discussed the whole range of issues including that pertaining to the large number of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia.

“I told him it was our way of making a modest contribution to the development of the Malaysian economy,” Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury also said.

It was reported that they had also discussed the subject of reactivating the Joint Economic Commission between the two governments, the message said.

“The welfare of our migrant workers is a priority issue with us. We have even included this matter in the D-8 Declaration document. On Monday I shall discuss some of these matters with the Malaysian Home and Immigration Minister Syed Hamid Albar,” the message said quoting the Foreign Adviser.
