Dasmunsi undergoes angioplasty, recovering fast

Kolkata : Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, who was diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome, underwent an angioplasty Monday at a private hospital here.

“A team of specialists performed an angioplasty on Dasmunsi Monday. Besides, a number of medical tests are being done from time-to-time. He is recovering fast,” hospital chief executive officer Rupali Basu told reporters.

A medical bulletin issued by the hospital said Dasmunsi “was diagnosed to have acute coronary syndrome. There were obstructions and primary angioplasty was done”.

“He progressed steadily. After the angioplasty, he was started on oral liquid diet. He remained stable all through. He is maintaining steady progress,” the bulletin said.

The minister’s wife and Congress legislator Deepa Dasmunsi said he would be shifted from the intensive care to a special ward in a day or two.

West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Water Investigation and Development Minister Nandagopal Bhattacharjee and Congress leader Somen Mitra visited Dasmunsi Monday afternoon.

Dasmunsi, on a visit to the Malda district in north West Bengal to attend a Congress party meeting, Sunday afternoon complained of breathlessness and was hospitalised at Raiganj in North Dinajpur district.

He was later flown into the metropolis by an air force plane from Purnea in Bihar.
