Mumbai : Indian equity markets extended their gains by early Monday afternoon, with metal, realty, power, capital goods and power stocks in demand.
At 1.00 p.m., the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, was at 13,744.68 points, up 290.68 points or 2.16 percent from its closing figure Friday. It had touched a high of 13,793.39 earlier in the day.
At the same time the broader based S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was up by 84.60 points or 2.11 percent to 4.100.60.
The market breadth was positive. On BSE 1,931 shares advanced, 507 declined and 56 remained unchanged.
