Sapporo (Japan): Afghan President Hamid Karzai Monday night telephoned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, as the latter flew into Japan, to express regrets over the suicide bombing in Kabul that killed over 40 people including four Indians at the Indian mission.
The prime minister, in turn, expressed resolve to work together with the Afghan leader and the government to fight terrorism and help the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the war-torn nation.
A suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a vehicle carrying two Indian diplomats, the military attache and a political counsellor, as they were entering the embassy premises and blew up many Afghans seeking a visa to travel to India as well as many security persons.
Manmohan Singh also spoke to Indian ambassador to Afghanistan Jayant Prasad and said the country was behind him and assured all support to him and his brave staff in carrying out their duties.
Officials said the prime minister, who was on board his special aircraft when the news of the Kabul blast came, was deeply shocked by the incident and expressed his horror and condemnation of the heinous act.
Manmohan Singh Monday night reached Sapporo to attend the G8-O5 Outreach Summit.
