Mumbai : Maharashtra’s Transport and Tribal Development Minister Dharmarao Baba Atram resigned Monday over his alleged involvement in the poaching of an endangered Chinkara deer.
Atram, a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
“I am in no way involved in the case but since inquiry is going on against me, I have no right to hold the chair,” he said in his resignation letter.
The remains of a chinkara were found at his house in Gadchiroli district when raids were conducted by forest department officials Saturday.
