NATO urges calm following terror attack in Kabul

Brussels : The Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organsiation (NATO), Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, “wholeheartedly condemned” the bombing at the Indian embassy in Kabul Monday.

“The loss of life and injuries to so many is a tragedy, and a clear attempt to undermine regional relations. I call on all parties to remain calm in the face of this provocation,” said the head of the 26-member Alliance.

Scheffer stressed that NATO remains determined to continue its mission to help bring security and stability to Afghanistan, including against the scourge of terrorism.

NATO has around 50,000 troops under its ISAF mission in Afghanistan.
